The Muslim Museum Initiative has advised the Aberdeen Maritime Museum on part of their new exhibition on John Philip’s painting, “Baptism in Scotland”. They requested advice on non-Christian birth or naming ceremonies, and objects that they could include in their exhibition.

From our advice the Museum has found several objects in their collection which are associated with Islamic birth rituals.

We also made available an image and suggested a recording of the adhan (call to prayer) could be used. We overlooked text and descriptions.
