Artist, Calligrapher, Designer, Photographer and Coach
Samir Malik has been actively sculpting his own brand of Art for over 35 years, traversing the globe to explore what it means to be human and how that is expressed through creativity.
Having studied Islamic Calligraphy in Damascus University, Syria in 2001, Samir has been honing his art ever since. He is acknowledged as one of the pioneers of the current revival of Islamic calligraphy in the UK and his work has been collected as part of the UK National Collection.
Samir creates calligraphies to touch, move and inspire; to find connection once again to the power and beauty of Spirit and to re-enchant the viewer into the world of wonder and magic that underlies the everyday and connects all of existence.
His work draws roots and inspiration from his travels and meetings with extraordinary human beings, including artists and spiritual teachers of all disciplines. Samir fuses different artistic traditions utilising classical mediums: ink and paints on paper and canvas, applied with kalams and brushes in addition to digital means of creation and manipulation. His calligraphy takes on a unique, avant garde and contemporary form that transcends boundaries.
Samir has exhibited internationally; and his art, designs and photography have been featured in periodicals and books. He has seen commissions from royalty, private clients, universities, galleries, mosques and corporations around Europe, the Middle East and the United States. He has worked with numerous organisations, including: the An-Nisa Society, Burton Snowboards, ChloĆ©, Deloitte, Heavenly, HSBC Amanah, IslamExpo, Global, Peace & Unity (GPU), KOA, the Lady Fatema Trust, Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival, Liverpool Arabic Centre, Lippincott, Lloyd’s Banking Group, the London Mayor’s Office, Meridian Institute for Culture and Dialogue, Muslim Council of Britain, Muslim Literary Society, Quba Islamic & Education Centre, Saudi Aramco, Siratt, and St. Mary’s Hospital Trust.
