Calligrapher, Artist
As a child, Lord Richard-Fouad MacLeod studied Arabic Calligraphy in Saudi Arabia under the auspices of his father, himself an accomplished artist and calligrapher who fervently encouraged his son’s growing interests.
Now, at the age of 42, as well as being an Islamic / Arabic calligrapher, Richard is an architect, a photographer, a film-maker, a poet, and writer. He has a BSc in Architecture and an MA in Film and Documentary Making. He has won awards for his photography and film-making.
Richard”s art is always about the beauty of imperfection – the beauty of humanity. Being himself mixed race and faith, he is very keen on exploring harmony, coexistence and diversity; and his unique experience of wealth, poverty, success, failure, asylum seeking, diaspora, along with many other experiences gives him a unique insight and a wealth of emotions to dip his brushes in.
His art has been exhibited in the UK, USA, Turkey, Egypt and Dubai. His paintings have been sold around the world.
David Cameron and Boris Johnson are reportedly owners of his work.
Richard’s MA in Arabic Calligraphy, relates specifically to its design and influence on the Islamic-British identity – it draws profound parallels across the many varied fields of artistic endeavour and reveals the broad and powerful influences which the world of artistic expression exercises over everyday life. His study combinated in producing the first British-Arabic calligraphy script in history which Richard called QEII ( Queen Elizabeth II).
Richard currently has an exhibition on at Kala Sangham Arts Centre, Bradford, UK. It is on until December 2014. The exhbition is titled ‘Love Actually’.
